When Rick Hubbard tasted the coffee of Manuel Antonio Barrantes at the "Taza de Oro" competition over 15 years ago, Manuel and his brother Carlos shared and worked on their family farm, Herbazu, together. In recent years the brothers decided to split their farmland and each go into business for himself. This is how the La Perla farm was formed and why it shares so many varieties with the Herbazu farm. Although grown using similar methods and mere yards apart from one another, each coffee differs in brightness and flavor, perfectly capturing how coffee can vary from farm to farm.
