Costa Rica Typica Toño

Notes of orange, cherry, and dark chocolate accompanied by a mild, tart acidity and a medium body.

Typica Toño is a Costa Rican hybrid variety developed in the west valley by Manuel Antonio Barrantes and the Herbazu family. As innovating leaders in the Costa Rican coffee trade, they’ve worked for years honing in the quality of their coffee, and exploring new varietals through cross-pollination. This particular coffee holds a special place in our hearts, as we’ve maintained a strong relationship with these farmers for over 15 years. The notes of chocolate and cherry combined with stellar sweetness, balanced acidity, and cleanliness in this cup keep us coming back for more.

Rick Hubbard first met the family at a Costa Rican specialty coffee competition called Cosecha de Oro. He tasted coffee from this farm blind, with over 20 other coffees on the table, and was pleasantly surprised by the stellar sweetness, balanced acidity, and cleanliness that was wholly unique at the time. He met with the family the next day hoping to purchase their coffee, and this has led to a fruitful partnership over the years.
