Villa Sarchi is a Costa Rican variety grown in the west valley by our frined and long time supporter, Manuel Antonio Barrantes.
As innovating leaders in the Costa Rican coffee trade, Antonio and the Herbazu family have worked for years honing in the quality of their coffee and exploring new varietals through cross-pollination. Rick Hubbard first met the family at a Costa Rican specialty coffee competition, Cosecha de Oro, over 15 years ago. He tasted coffee from Antonio’s farm blind, with over 20 other coffees on the table, and was pleasantly surprised by the stellar sweetness, balanced acidity, and cleanliness that was wholly unique at the time. He met with the family the next day hoping to purchase their coffee, leading to a fruitful partnership that still holds firm and has seen Antonio and his family visit us here at our facility many times.
We have featured many coffees from the Herbazu family over the years, each one with its own unique characteristics but still created with the highest possible quality. The Villa Sarchi is no acceptation. Expect floral, milk chocolate, and red fruit notes paired with a medium body and pointed acidity.
